Läderach: Groundbreaking Bilten 2 production facility officially opened
  • Glarus-based premium chocolate manufacturer to produce entire FrischSchoggi line at newly opened factory

  • Modular design provides flexible basis for further growth

  • Largest investment project completed on schedule and put into operation

Bilten, October 27, 2025 – Läderach, the manufacturer of fresh premium chocolate from the canton of Glarus, has taken a major step towards further growth. On October 24, the pioneering production facility on Linth-Escher-Strasse in Bilten was opened in the presence of architects, contractors, and local politicians. One day later, employees were invited to the opening and inspection. Covering an area of 145 x 63 meters, a production building with a height of 6.5 meters and a high-bay warehouse with a height of 20 meters (both from ground level) have been constructed.

In future, various product groups will be relocated from Ennenda to Bilten, creating additional capacity for other product groups in Ennenda itself. The necessary liquid chocolate, the couverture, will continue to be produced at the Bilten 1 site on Grabenstrasse and delivered in liquid form to the two production sites. In the first phase, 150 employees will find a new professional home there. Around 100 of them come from the Ennenda site, and around 50 more have been newly hired.

“On time, on budget”

It is remarkable that less than three years passed between the signing of the property purchase agreement in fall 2022, the demolition, the laying of the foundation stone on November 29, 2023, and completion, and that the project was finalized “on time, on budget.”

For projects of this magnitude, this is an extraordinary success, to which the project team and all trades contributed. Solar panels are installed on the roof, which could meet the annual electricity needs of 75 households. By the second quarter of next year at the latest, the building will be heated with district heating from KVA-Linth.

A modular concept makes it possible to add up to two additional floors to the production building in line with further sustainable growth.

Guarantee for long-term business security

“Our international growth over the past five years has been particularly impressive. Demand for our high-quality chocolate specialties remains strong, meaning that our production capacities were increasingly becoming a bottleneck,” says CEO Johannes Läderach. “The new production facility in Bilten gives us room for further growth and more future-proof jobs in the canton of Glarus, and thus long-term business security,” Johannes Läderach continues.

"Artisanal production is and will remain important to us because we want to continue to guarantee premium quality. At the new location, we can ideally combine this with the necessary efficiency,“ says Laurens van den Berg, COO and responsible for production and supply chain. ”The new location also significantly strengthens our supply chain and is a key cornerstone of our risk strategy in terms of reliability," van den Berg continues.
