Läderach: Ready for further growth
  • - Glarus-based manufacturer of premium chocolate to build new plant on around 13,000 square meters by 2025

  • - Modular construction makes future expansion possible

  • - Ground-breaking ceremony on November 29 in the presence of the contractors and local politicians

Bilten, November 29, 2023 - Läderach, the manufacturer of premium chocolate from the canton of Glarus, has taken a major step towards further growth. The ground-breaking ceremony for the new production facility on Linth-Escher-Strasse in Bilten was attended by architects, contractors, and local politicians. A production building with a height of 7.9 meters and a high-bay warehouse with a height of 21.4 meters from ground level are being built on an area measuring 144 x 62 meters.

In future, the building will be mainly used to produce the popular FrischSchoggi products. This will leave more capacity at the Ennenda site to produce pralines, truffles, mini mousses and other delicacies. The liquid chocolate required for all products, the couverture, will continue to be produced at the Bilten 1 site on Grabenstrasse and delivered from there in liquid form to the two production sites.

Photovoltaic systems are planned in order to produce part of the necessary electricity ourselves. Additionally, a partnership is planned with KVA-Linth, supplying energy in the form of hot water. A modular concept enables to expand the production building in the event of further sustainable growth.

Quantum leap for further growth

"Our international growth over the past five years has been particularly impressive. We have doubled in size by almost all standards. The demand for our high-quality chocolate specialties is unbroken. Our production capacities are increasingly becoming a bottleneck factor," says CEO Johannes Läderach. "With the new production facility in Bilten, not far from the House of Läderach, we have made a quantum leap that will give us room for further growth and more future-proof jobs in the canton of Glarus," Johannes Läderach continues.

"With this pioneering new building, we can organize our production efficiently and sustainably, in line with our ideas," says Laurens van den Berg, who is a member of the executive committee and responsible for all production sites. "It also significantly strengthens our supply chain, and a second production site is also a real asset in terms of product safety," says van den Berg, highlighting further advantages of the third site.

Construction will begin immediately after the ground-breaking ceremony and production is scheduled to start in August 2025
